How to Win an Agent in 5 Easy Steps

Okay, Google Reader has totally changed the way you publicly share articles, and I'm still figuring it out. So, we're doing this the old-fashioned way. I present a special Friday Favorites: How to Win an Agent in 5 Easy Steps!

Step 1. Think of new and interesting ways to stress out imaginary people. Write them down.

Step 2. Edit until you feel like crying, then proceed to cry through editing.

Step 3. Become familiar with the publishing industry.

Step 4. Write a logline. It helps you zero in on your novel's premise and prevents you from answering, "What's your book about?" with a 15-minutes monologue.

Step 5. Send a query. Send lots of queries. Just don't send them all to the same agent.

Repeat as needed.

  1. "Repeat as needed"--no truer words were ever spoken! Nice little post.
